Saying Goodbye to Sideshows and Street Takeovers

The California Vehicle Code (CVC) Section 23109 has been updated to take a firm stance against street takeovers and reckless sideshow events, where drivers block off roads to show off with dangerous stunts. Starting in 2025, if you’re caught participating in a street takeover or sideshow event, you could face penalties like a 90-day to six-month suspension of your driver’s license, hefty fines, or even jail time—because apparently, putting lives at risk for some street cred isn’t worth the trouble. For repeat offenders, the consequences get even harsher, including the possibility of having your car impounded or being sentenced to extra community service. The message is clear—reckless driving for thrills could land you with more than just a ticket. So, before you think about throwing a street party, you might want to double-check your backup plans. Your license and your freedom could be at stake.
