Starting in 2025, California is cracking down on drivers who attempt to disable their car’s safety features, particularly in vehicles with advanced driver assistance or autonomous technology. The updated Vehicle Code (Article 17.5, Section 28155) makes it illegal to install, sell, or use devices designed to interfere with these essential monitoring systems. Make sure you think again if you’ve been hoping to take a break while your car does the driving. If you’re caught, it’s an infraction—with no exceptions. This law ensures that safety systems remain fully functional and prevents anyone from hacking them. There is no more bypassing the car's safety systems in hopes of being able to "rest your eyes" behind the wheel. Make note of this new law to avoid getting an infraction.
